Tesla Model S: Seal - Steering Rack (Remove and Replace)
Removal
- Raise and support the vehicle (refer to procedure).
Warning: Do not work on an incorrectly supported
vehicle.
- Remove upper intermediate steering shaft (refer to procedure)
- Remove steering rack dash seal from shaft.
Installation
- Installation procedure reverse of removal, except for the
following:
- Ensure the intermediate shaft to pinion marking align correctly.
- Check front toe alignment.

Remove the underhood storage unit for access (refer to
procedure).
Mark the lower intermediate shaft position relative to the upper
intermediate shaft and pinion.

Warning: If the 12V power supply is disconnected, do
not attempt to open any doors with door glass in closed
position. Failure to follow this instruction could result in
door glass shat

Disconnect the lower intermediate shaft (refer to procedure).

applies to vehicles with the vacuum brake booster only. If the
vehicle has the electromechanical brake booster assembly, the
master cylinder and reservoir assembly are part of the brake
booster assembly. Refer to procedure 33031402
